Overview

John Thompson is a partner of the firm practicing in the Technology and Intellectual Property section. He focuses his practice on electrical, computer and software patent preparation and prosecution in the United States and in foreign countries. John counsels clients on patent matters, including patentability, validity, and infringement, and on strategic intellectual property planning. John also assists with trademark prosecution, which includes protecting marks and domain names, and obtaining registrations.

While at Arizona State University, John worked as an intern on the telemetry systems of the space shuttle’s rocket boosters. Following graduation, he accepted a position with Arizona Public Service as a design engineer in the instrument and control division of the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station.

Prior to joining Stoel Rives, John was a shareholder (2001–2002) and associate (1995–2000) at Madson & Metcalf, Salt Lake City, Utah.
