Stoel Rives' Occupational Safety and Health Law practice group has extensive experience helping our clients understand and comply with federal and state occupational safety and health laws and regulations. This practice group also has extensive and very successful experience representing clients who have been issued citations alleging violations of safety and health regulations.

Compliance
The occupational safety and health regulations that apply to our clients are both immense in scope and extremely complicated. Compliance issues are very often specific to particular industries; they are sometimes specific to particular operations. The lawyers in our practice group have substantial experience with the nuances of these regulations across the full range of general industry and construction sectors (including wood products, metals production, construction, assembly production, high tech, retail operations, mining, transportation, and manufacturing). We are able to assist in the development of compliance programs, and we can tell clients what can be done to minimize the risk of citation. Inspection Counseling
Given the significant penalties now being issued by both state and federal regulators, the proper handling of agency inspections is absolutely critical. Our practice group lawyers have worked with clients, most often right there in the facility, through a wide range of inspections, including inspections arising out of fatalities and serious injuries. We know what needs to be done to present your best case to the regulators who will decide what enforcement action to take.
Many of the lawyers in our practice group have experience in personal injury defense and can assist our clients in managing post-accident investigations in such a manner as to minimize civil liabilities arising from an incident. Our practice group works closely with Stoel Rives White Collar Criminal Law Practice Group whenever criminal liabilities are filed or threatened.
Litigation
We frequently represent clients nationwide in appeals from citations issued under safety and health regulations, including citations issued by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration and state agencies administering state safety and health programs. We are often called upon to assist clients in informal settlement conferences, and to handle trial and appeal of matters that can not be resolved by settlement.
Indoor Air Quality
Our lawyers have substantial experience in identifying and resolving Indoor Air Quality concerns involving bioaerosol, fungal, mycotoxin and chemical air contaminants. We have represented school building owners and companies renting commercial spaces during investigations, remediation projects and civil actions alleging personal injuries from exposures.
