BOISE- Attorneys in the Stoel Rives LLP Boise office were honored with the Law Day 2012 6.1 Challenge Award for Excellence in Pro Bono and Community Service, presented by the Idaho State Bar Fourth District Bar Association on April 27. Stoel was the winner in the large firms category in the four-county District competition.
Applications for the award are reviewed by a panel of members of the federal and state judiciary plus local community leaders. They look at the type and quality of the pro bono work, in addition to the number of hours the office contributed, and the percentage of attorneys in the local office who participated. Stoel's record was "outstanding" in both participation areas, noted Mary Hobson, Legal Director of the Idaho Volunteer Lawyers Program.
The 6.1 Challenge, named after Idaho Rule of Professional Conduct 6.1, encourages pro bono and public service activities by Fourth District Bar members. Rule 6.1 states that every lawyer has a professional responsibility to provide legal services to those unable to pay. A lawyer should aspire to render at least fifty (50) hours of pro bono legal services per year to persons of limited means or to charitable, religious, civic, community, governmental and educational organizations.
Partner Teresa Hill and associates Allison Blackman, Jason Prince and Sara Berry accepted the award on behalf of Stoel Rives at a reception marking the conclusion of Law Day. As is traditional, attorneys throughout the District celebrated Law Day by staffing the "Ask a Lawyer" telephone hotline and by making presentations to schools.
